step 2

Warm-ups:

I think my strengths regarding warming up include good location/posture, my attention to creating a good tone, my choice of material for development of different concepts, and my ability to utilize a logical sequence of exercises. I could improve by spending a longer time warming-up, and being more focused on the warm-up. I can improve these things (and more) by setting daily goals for myself, and not letting senioritis get the best of me.

Practice:

I think my strengths regarding practicing include focusing on small sections, establishing a fundamental foundation, my choice of material, and my use of appropriate materials and resources. I could improve by paying more attention to musical shape and nuance, and staying more focused on the task at hand. I can improve these things by using strategies like researching things I don't know, practicing, and setting goals to try to prevent senioritis.

Work Habits:

While reflecting on the Work Habits Rubric, I think my strongest area is attitude and behavior. While filling it out, this is where I got the highest score for myself. As for areas in need of improvement, I would say work habits could be improved after seeing my score drop since the beginning of the semester (yay senior year). I might make more smaller goals to make sure I get things done in the future.

step 3

In what way have you grown as a musician this semester?

I have grown as a musician in a lot of ways this semester. For example, I have learned a lot more about reading and playing music than I did at the start. I can start to figure out how to play a song with a lot less confusion. I have also gained even more of an appreciation for musicians, because there is a lot more to it than I once thought, though I knew it wasn't easy.

What has been the greatest benefit/most rewarding aspect of your learning experience?

I think the most rewarding aspect of this learning experience was the fact that last semester I said "I don't want to leave high school without learning the basics, at least, of how to read music, and now (though /i am still very much a beginner, I have done that. I have at least started somewhere, and it is great I am now able to say I'm graduating with at least some music knowledge.

How would you approach the process differently if you had another opportunity to learn in this manner?

If I had another opportunity to learn in this manner, I probably wouldn't do it at a time where I had such low motivation. Though I was motivated to learn these things (reading/playing), it was hard to keep sight of that with Senioritis.

Reflection

step 1

I think my initial goals we're pretty realistic, but still a little ambitious. Thinking that I could get through this course without any Senioritis impact was wishful thinking. That being said, it could've been a lot worse. I think I achieved my overall goal to start to learn the basics so I could continue after the class is over, whether it is in the summer or in college. I started to relearn the violin/ fiddle so I could continue to learn if I chose to. I think I could've done better avoiding sources of interference throughout the semester, but I also think it could've been worse. I was still able to accomplish my goal, maybe not quite to the level I was expecting, but it was accomplished.

step 2

Overall, I think the outcome of these assessments pretty accurately portray the work I've done this semester. Based on these outcomes, I think my biggest strength was meaning, and work habits. I have compensated for weakness by trying my best in those areas, and (hopefully) excelling in areas I'm stronger in. What I have learned about learning is that it isn't always easy, especially in an atmosphere where I am the one in control of my learning. This relates to other learning experiences, like my online class, because I had to stay motivated to do well in both situations, or it could've gone badly.

Step 3

I definitely think I am more comfortable with most of the material since Unit 1, and I think I have achieved what I wanted to learn (as I have previously mentioned talking about my goals). For example, I feel more confident with pitch, rhythm, and chords, but definitely still need work when it comes to ear training and sight reading.

step 4

I think the quality of work of my ePortfolio is acceptable, and (hopefully) easy to follow. I have tried my best to at least satisfy the assignment. I didn't really modify my portfolio approach, it pretty much stayed the same from beginning to end.

step 5

Three of the most important concepts I have learned this semester have been learning to read music (note identification/ beats/ rhythm etc.), muscle memory (how to hold/ play an instrument well) and time management. I think these are important because they are the building blocks of learning to play an instrument, and time management is also just important in general. In the future I will use these to continue to understand and appreciate music, and time management in everyday life for obvious reasons.

Step 6

My advice to future students taking this class would be to make sure you manage your time well, practice even when you don't want to, and stay motivated (especially you seniors!!!). It can be really easy to get off task but if you stay focused it is amazing what you can teach yourself.

step 7

As we have all talked about in the past, the more lessons the better. My only critique is that the unit content (questions we had to answer) started to feel kind of repetitive in some cases. Besides that, the class was great. I also highly recommend Wix!

step 8

Done. Thanks for everything :)
